Kaitlyn, I definitely agree that we should look into the beliefs that actual Crusaders likely held and what motivated them at the time. It really isn’t fair to judge others in history according to a measure stick that is either tainted or informed by modern thinking. On the other hand, I think that the Crusades present a unique opportunity for us to question areas in our own lives where we might be lulled into hypocrisy or a false sense of doing the right/expedient thing when we may really be working counter to our own faith and tradition.
