I think there needs to be a renewed emphasis on reading and understanding the history and context presented in the Old Testament as well as the covenantal relationship with the Jewish people. We might have less antisemitism today if more people understood the Judeo-Christian views on which our modern society was actually founded. In addition, I think that there needs to be a greater emphasis on why we do what we do and where certain directives are coming from in the Bible. Instead of just being told to “love your neighbor”, it helps to draw out examples of how that is illustrated in the Bible and how we know and derive basic moral principles based on the text that we’ve been given. It is a great gift that our Lord gave us the Bible as this profound compass that can help guide our thinking. We must know work harder to actually use it!
