Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

Jeff, I agree with your understanding that our Lord will absolutely respect and keep his promises to the Jewish people. Any other belief on the matter seems to put our Lord in the role of being a liar. Given that He cannot lie and is a perfect being, how could anyone reasonably suppose that He would renege on his promises? I think one of the problems is that sometimes people might feel threatened by the promises our Lord has made to the Jews just because members of other groups weren’t initially a part of that covenant. The beautiful thing is that we know our Lord cares equally about the salvation of everyone, and we can all be chosen by our Lord for divine love regardless of who our ancestors were.
