I agree that it’s both sad and humbling to think about the history of antisemitism within Christianity. Sadly, many of these tropes are not confined to the past and have actually seeped so far into popular culture that they can often be difficult to recognize. For example, when one sees powerful donors contributing to causes with which one disagrees, it is easy for people to attribute such funding to well known Jewish donors rather than equally well known and contributing non-Jews. Most recently, there was even a statement by the NYC mayor-elect suggesting that there was a connection between corruption in the NYPD and the IDF…. That such statements could be made unopposed are scary. Scarier still is the fact that others might have believed them….
