I’ve absolutely heard this nonsense that you can only support one or the other: Israelis or Palestinians. I think it’s a sad misconception, especially when Christians assume that they must choose who are more deserving of dignity and respect. We know from our faith that all humans are created equally in the divine image. Because of this knowledge, we can and must care about all people and work toward solutions and a world order that will respect and enable flourishing across differences.
I worry that the spread of conspiracy theories, misrepresenting one group or the other, has led to an increasingly polarized and confused understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. I think that our role in all of this is to inform ourselves and equip ourselves with truth so that we can help combat misconceptions and actively work toward building the understanding that we hope to see. This work is even more important now than perhaps ever before.
