I’ve often thought about the exact issue you’re bringing up. We can sometimes feel really far from our Lord because we are separated by both time and space from so many miracles that we can only read about in the Bible. However, it’s crazy to reflect on how even the Israelites still built the golden calf despite having just witnessed the parting of the Red Sea and their own deliverance from Egypt. Their failing reveals more about human nature and our own weaknesses than anything else. Even when we feel we’ve steeled ourself against weakness, despair, and misdirection, we must not be complacent. Faith and truth must actively be sought by each of us every day.
