When I return to my hometown, I’m going to volunteer with my Church. As a young person, rarely do I get to put down roots. My church memberships last often no more than 3 months at a time before I move to the next place. However, there is no sunk cost in our communities of believers. While I am in one physical place, I’m still going to make an effort to set down some roots, no matter how shallow, for the time that I am within the place.
By volunteering, I’ll not only be a Hebraic leader and promote the welfare of others, but also connect with fellow church members along the way. As a resident of Western north carolina, much of my community still needs support after Hurricane Helene. My obligation is not just to my vocation within Middle East policy, but also to those suffering nearby.
Such an experience will allow me to gain more wisdom from fellow believers, while also meditating on the feeling of giving. As I begin my career in foreign policy, I’ll continue such efforts and keep such spirit in mind.
