Reply To: In Lecture 2, Dr. Dru Johnson mentions that there has been a decline in biblical literacy in the Church. After taking this course, what are some recommendations you would give to church leadership to increase biblical literacy?

I think you are right about memorizing scripture–I don’t think it’s juvenile at all. When I studied a new language in high school, I immersed myself in that language as much as possible. How much more do we need to do this when we are attempting to become fluent in the Bible! The Bible says we are to “hide God’s word in [our] heart[s],” (Psalm 119). Deuteronomy 6:6–9 also says “These words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
