I have both consciously and subconsciously used my faith to examine foreign policy. As a Catholic, just war theory plays an important role in how I view foreign policy. I have applied its principles consciously to different wars and conflicts, both in the Middle East and in other parts of the world. I have also used its principles in thinking about foreign intelligence, an important but often neglected aspect of foreign policy. However, just war theory cannot be perfectly applied in all circumstances due to lack of accurate knowledge (especially as someone who does not currently work in foreign policy). Subconsciously, Christian values of forgiveness, justice, and defending the weak are important in helping sort out my views on different conflicts. For example, justice and defence of the weak justify in my mind the current way Israel is fighting its war with Hamas, as it has a duty to protect its weakest and most vulnerable.
