Yes. I had never heard that Modernist Jewish say that the promised Messiah is a Messianic Age, not a person. I was only aware of the belief that the Messiah would be a man bringing peace. Walking into conversations with my many Modernist/Reformed Jewish friends and not knowing this could lead to useless questions and conversations. I am often times stumped as to how to begin conversations about Messiah. Recently, asked my elderly Jewish friend why she and her family did not believe Jesus was the Messiah. We have very open and weekly conversations, so this was not offensive to her. She replied, “I actually don’t know. I’ll have to ask our Rabbi.” That seems like a much more typical answer to Messiah questions. Has anyone else had an experience like this? From what I understand, her synagogue only studies the Torah, so she is unaware of the teaching of the Prophets.
