In thinking about this lecture and its application to my own church community, I am stuck on the word “Social”. I think most churches have a Social Media presence to attract visitors and connect attendees. They may even have hired a person to oversee it. It would seem reasonable to create at least one platform for discussion and edification instead of social engagement and advertisement. How many of us walk away from a phenomenal communal worship and learning time and have any discussions about it past Sunday? In our church app, there is a place to take notes on the weekly sermons. It would be quite simple to code it to have more in-depth features like links to the passages used and ones for further study, a discussion forum, and a place to post questions. As an in-app feature, it would not be posted in a public way, but would still be easily accessible to those already taking notes for personal reflection. This would also serve as great feedback and encouragement to the teaching pastors.
