I plan to exhibit Hebraic leadership in my own neighborhood after this course is by carving out a designated time every day for focused prayer and discernment. Reverse-engineering my schedule so I have a solid 20 minutes of silent prayer in the middle or at the end of the day, I feel, could really help me navigate the world , in light of the note that “essentially, leadership is just another word for navigation.” Considering the etymological root of the word navigate (from the Greek navis+agere, ship+drive), I am reminded of John 6, in which Jesus not only crosses the sea of Galilee to feed the five thousand — after which he “withdrew again to a mountain by himself” (John 6:15). Later in that chapter, the disciples board a boat towards Capernaum, tread difficult waters, and see Jesus approach walking on water: “they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading” (John 6:21). This passage, in my view (coupled with Jesus’ post-boat-ride-and-service prayerful retreat) underscores the importance of creating time and intention to ask for and accept Divine help — whether navigating literal seas or veering towards a specifc temporal destination in the spirit of Hebraic leadership.
