Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

I wasn’t taught this growing up in the church. There was little mention of the Jews, the importance of Israel, the covenant God made with the Jewish people, or how we, as believers in Christ, are grafted into that promise. Much of my understanding of these things came from my parents, who had a deep love for Israel and the Jewish people. However, it wasn’t until years later, as an adult, that I discovered my father’s family were Jewish immigrants from Morocco. This revelation sparked a deep desire to study God’s Word and explore the Hebraic roots of my faith. To further this understanding, I began attending Chabad to gain insight into the Jewish faith through their traditions and perspective. Since then, my knowledge of the Bible and my faith in Christ have deepened significantly. This course has not only confirmed much of what I have learned but has also enriched my understanding of the Judeo-Christian faith. It has been a tremendous blessing, providing me with a well-organized outline of notes and resources that explain this important topic.
