As juvenile as it sounds, I’d recommend memorizing scripture like some did if they grew up going to church camp or faith-based retreats. Committing the literal Bible to memory is a great way to promote literacy by knowing without referencing what it says. I have also noticed scripture references more frequently in various worship music – some modern (think Bethel Music and Elevation Worship) and some old (lots of the hymns written by the Wesley brothers). Discussing these songs in more detail and directing back to where they are referencing from would also be a channel to promote biblical literacy. I love reading verses and discovering a worship song I love was lifted from the verses. It puts the words to music and also commits them to memory much faster than just reading the text.
