Reply To: How should Catholics reconcile the call to witness about one’s faith with the lived reality and fear of Jews concerning Christian evangelism and the erosion of Jewish identity through conversion? Why do historical figures like Edith Stein complicate Jewish- Catholic relations and the importance of upholding identity and the importance of salvation?

It is interesting about Brother Daniel. I am not familiar with that story, but it touches on what was said in the lectures: “Jewish Catholic might be possible, but a Catholic Jew is much less so…A Jew might be able to modify Catholic, whereas, Catholic cannot modify Jew.” Again, I think identity is not just one thing or another – God designed people to be so much more than what labels we put on ourselves. It is also true that humans were put in this world at the exact time we were meant to be. If Brother Daniel was raised Jewish, and in Poland, for example, he was put there by God’s design.
