Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

I also have become more intrigued by the original language of the Bible/the people who spoke it 2,000 years ago. I’m also biased because I am a bilingual interpreter 🙂

Something that occurred to me as I read your response, too, is the idea of God upholding the covenant. Theologians and scholars act like the covenant is so fickle, flimsy and fair-weathered – that it would change on a dime between the Old and New Testaments. A covenant ought to be given more credit – it is a strong promise, a firm foundation between God and His people – why we think He would uphold it for some but not all discredits its power.
