I, too, swung between hope and sadness throughout reading the article. I think my biggest source of hope was realizing how much of Lebanon’s population is not supportive of Hezbollah, including many from the Sunni community. Similarly, reading Dr. Malik’s description of the youth involved in the 2019 protests shows that the seeds of Lebanon’s golden age still exist, even a generation or two later, which means there is still a strong foundation of respect, pluralism, and freedom amongst the Lebanese people to build on going forward.
