Hi Nicole, Matti Friedman’s piece was eye-opening to me as well. Even though I’ve taken previous courses on Middle Eastern politics & the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and have done a lot of reading on the region, no one has framed the bigger picture with the angle of “even if, somehow, an acceptable solution to governance and territory between Israeli and Palestine was found, would there still be violence, conflict, and maybe even full-out war?” I found this somewhat discouraging because it’s very difficult to imagine a different geopolitical dynamic/foreign policy being realistic or possible from some of these additional actors in the bigger picture (Iran, Hezbollah, etc).
