Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

In growing up, I never really heard about the covenant of the Jewish people and it’s relevance to the present day. I heard about a covenant with God’s chosen people that led to the establishment of the kingdom of Israel. This led to the need for Jesus, our messiah, due to the failed nature of His covenant people, who continued to break His covenant daily. This insight of countering supercessionism shows that God’s chosen people are chosen yesterday, chosen today, and chosen tomorrow. Our unified story shows in Romans 11 that Gentiles have been grafted in through Jesus our savior, our Lord, and our mediator. In that way, our unified one story gives us to be a part of the grand Bible narrative. Consequently, Jesus return on earth establishes a final kingdom, one in Jerusalem to be with God with his covenant people and the gentiles who love and accept Him as savior.
