I am in awe of the resilience of the Lebanese Christians, from the war of 1982 against Israel to the 2006 war to the Beirut explosion. These people have been through so much. They have fought for their country. They were even training their young man for war. They have been instrumental in wanting the best for Lebanon and being involved. They have also fought for their faith. I was in awe of the work of Charles Malik, as a Lebanese diplomat who truly put his faith in action throughout his life. He was critical to creating the UN Declaration of Human Rights. I am in awe that these Christian communities have been able to withstand the Ottoman Empire, the various wars, and persecution. I would love to go to Lebanon and meet some of these Maronites. I would ask them, how they stay so positive, amid this unstable history. The country is strategically located and has so many groups and countries involved in its politics and government. Yet, these Christian communities remain stronger than one may think.
