I think your attention to the person of Jesus as an area of common ground is very insightful. I’m reminded of a verse from Rumi, rendered in English as “I‟ve seen a world without a trace of death,
All atoms here have Jesus‟ pure breath.” Even though the Quran denounces the idea of Jesus as the son of God, there is such an immense respect for Jesus in both traditionalist and mystical varieties of Islam. Using Jesus’ own words, like the greatest commandment, seem an ideal entry point for common ground with our Muslim neighbors, without seeming too preachy.
