Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

I agree that the Old Testament is a frame of reference (“the history”) for later teachings in the Bible. I find it interesting that all of the violence takes place in the Old Testament, but the teachings and miracles take place in the New Testament. Do you have a favorite book in the Old Testament? Mine is Isaiah, because God is really rough and really tough on the story’s subjects! I think God’s “recorded” voice is heard loud and clear in this book. I think study of other translations of the Bible can create a better frame of study for analysis and so on. What do you think?
