I attend on Zoom my weekly bible study with my ecumenical Franciscan community. They tend to lean very far left. I think the caution that Dr Dru makes about the amplification of our voices and the diminishment of the biblical context is very apt. I have acquired since joining the bible study circle more editions of Scripture. For instance, we do a pattern called “African” where we start with one translation, someone reads that aloud, we all pick a word or phrase that stands out, and then reflect. We then do the same with another version. We expand from the original application of the passage to our selves, then the second to our fellowship, and by then it opens up naturally into issues that address its relevance to both the contexts of the reading (the one Christian lectionaries use each Sunday) of the Gospel in its generation of the storyline, and the resonance of the message to our own time and situation.
