Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people. I was taught growing up that this applies to the Jews and Gentiles after Jesus comes to Earth to fulfill his sacrifice, through a brutal, underserved death for us on the cross. But, I do recognize that there is an importance put on the New Testament which is higher than the Old Testament as well. This can cause Christians to be unaware of the Jewish lineage of Christ and the history before Jesus came. This is critical to understanding the Gospel. I also think if we understand Jewish customs and history more, we understand the Bible more. We also can share the gospel with more knowledge to Jewish people. When I read the Bible, I want to learn more about the original language of the text and the background of Jewish customs and traditions. I want to understand the context between the Jews and Romans for example, when Jesus walked this Earth. I think the Chosen Show does a great job of depicting this.
