Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

This was not taught in detail at this side of the world (far east) but I vaguely remembered picking up vibes like the trouble that Israel is having in current days is due to them not obeying God’s commands to drive the Canaanites out of Israel after their sojourn in the desert. In my years as a believer, i don’t see any strong teachings taught in my community on going against the Hebrews. On the other hand, there was also no emphasis or detailed teachings on the role of Israel today, especially how it stands with the believers. Only in recent years that as I re-studied the Hebrew scriptures, I began to appreciate God’s chosen people, their language and their history. Truly remarkable and almost impossible to say they survived without any Divine protection.
