As Christians, there are a number of ways we can find common ground with our Muslim neighbors and ways we can seek to foster positive relationships. Romans 12:18 (NIV) states “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” This verse stands out to me when considering our Muslim neighbors. In the current climate after October 7th, it is clear that Islamists seek to destroy the Jewish people and Christian’s who support them, along with Western society. However, it’s important for us to remember that not all Muslims are islamists and that we must seek to love them, seek their good, and live at peace with them as much as possible. As Christian’s we should desire the safety and salvation of Muslims. Some issues in society that Christian’s can find common ground with Muslims on are pro-life work, LGBTQ issues, other concerns in our local communities that affect us, and speaking against and offering support when hate crimes against Muslims take place. On a larger scale, we can advocate for international issues where Muslims are persecuted for their faith, such as in China. Other ways to love Muslims is to be open to befriending them in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and schools. It’s important for us to not paint all Muslims with one brush and to use our discernment in our interactions. All of the efforts can be a foundation on which to share the love and gospel of Christ with Muslims.
