Rebekah, I agree with your statement about intentionally discussing and seeking the Hebraic context of scripture in a community. As a new Christian, I’ve emphasized individual Bible study over communal study. I think part of this is because of what I’ve been taught and the nature of how Western Christianity is structured. The other part being I enjoy working by myself! I think one way a communal approach could be employed is by asking other congregants after a sermon their thoughts, reflections, and questions specifically about the sermon. I think Bible study groups are also important opportunities to foster Bible literacy and fluency.
