Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

First of all, thank you for sharing a piece of your story! How great is our God to reveal these truths. It’s hard not to see the Old Testament as harsh and aggressive behavior on God’s part but you’re right…we cannot have the New without the Old. There is so much evidence in the Old Testament that make the revelations of the New Testament even more real peaceful, joyous, and expectant. Knowing Hebraic tradition not only emphasizes our understanding of the Jesus but prompts us to care more for His chosen race in modern times.
