Reply To: In Lecture 2, Dr. Dru Johnson mentions that there has been a decline in biblical literacy in the Church. After taking this course, what are some recommendations you would give to church leadership to increase biblical literacy?

Hi Janey, as a fellow Catholic I agree that it’s taken me some time to (and I’m not fully there yet) be well-versed in my Scripture. Although, I do not have verses memorized off the top of my head like my Christian peers, I give myself grace, in the sense that I know the stories and bigger concepts. One thing I tend to notice a lack of in my Protestant peers is the missing of context. Whenever reading/explaining a story, context is very important. Understanding the context of the stories in the Bible and the “why” is a great start.
