Reply To: Have you ever been told that supporting Israel prevents you from supporting Palestinians? After taking this course, how would you go about responding to false accusations like this?

Jonathan, I agree that conversations about what support of Israel and Palestinians means needs to happen. I don’t think supporting a Jewish state means not supporting Palestinians. But how do Palestinians have self determination or how can they be absorbed into a neighbouring country or Israel? The idea of a two state solution doesn’t sit well with me as I don’t think that the land of Israel should be under anyone else’s control. As Gerald McDermott stated in the Jewish Christian relations course, the Jewish people have conditional possession but an unconditional title to the land. To me, it seems wrong to support another nation naming and claiming a part of the land of Israel as something else. Joel 3:2 states,”I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel, because they scattered my people among the nations and divided up my land.” Does this verse have any relation to or wisdom for how we approach this conflict over the land?
