You were completely correct when you mentioned the need to evaluate each word when speaking of the Middle East. In such a volatile and precarious region, in which definition and identity is of critical importance, the least we can do in the West is attempt to use precise and truthful language. Allowing ourselves to be misled by simplifications will only serve to imperil the region further.
