The U.S. should assist in mediating negotiations toward a resolution in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel is a key strategic American ally, and the United States should not pretend otherwise to suit our own internal agenda or appease short-term domestic pressures. Particularly in recent years, as political polarization in the U.S. has dictated foreign policy, the U.S. is failing to uphold its interests in maintaining the trust and respect of Israeli leaders. America should play the long game and recognize that our interests in the Middle East will always extend beyond a four-year term.
