The idea of “anyone who is in your sphere is your neighbour” struck me! Our neighbours are both fellow believers and the unbelievers in our life that we are in contact with. After taking this part of the course, I’ve begun to think about how I can be more of a blessing to my neighbours. One way is to pray for them, the other to continually look out for their needs and see if I can be of any assistance. For example, a fellow believer recently broke her phone, so I offered her assistance to get a new one. Another takeaway from this course is to be in community. I’m a christian school teacher, and so I’m in community with my students on a daily basis. We read the word together and I have the opportunity to speak the word to them throughout their day, whether they’re completing academic work or working through a conflict with a friend. The hebraic understanding of community helped me to reorient my perspective as a teacher, as not just my “job”, but as a sphere and calling where God has put me to lead in a community for His glory.
