Reply To: In Lecture 2, Dr. Dru Johnson mentions that there has been a decline in biblical literacy in the Church. After taking this course, what are some recommendations you would give to church leadership to increase biblical literacy?

Hi Mariah,

Thank you for your wise words. I can attest based on my own life that allowing and encouraging people, especially young people, to get involved in running aspects of the church in a meaningful way is a great way to encourage biblical literacy. In my teen years I attended a church that gave me this opportunity, which I’m thankful for as it set me on a good life course to deepen my understanding in the Bible and God, even beyond what that church was teaching. In later years, the churches I attended required so many unnecessary hoops for people to jump through to even get minimally involved, and I saw many people walk away from faith in those churches and otherwise Biblically illiterate congregants.
