Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Titus! I think it’s neat you grew up hearing different perspectives on God’s covenant with the Jewish people and the modern state of Israel. I agree that it is important to examine the Bible when we are seeking to better understand a topic and form beliefs. As we study Scripture, we can ask God to open our eyes and reveal things we hadn’t noticed before. While I previously knew that some Christians believed the church replaced Israel, I didn’t know the details of supersessionism, so I appreciated Dr. McDermott’s lectures and explanations, especially since his beliefs changed.
