Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

Hi Titus! I wouldn’t disagree that God gave his covenant to Israel, and it was then fulfilled by Jesus, but I think, perhaps, we have different understandings of some terms. Jesus came and died that we might become part of God’s people, correct? In which case, would we not also be considered part of Israel? Additionally, Jesus came to fulfill the law of sin and death — would that then cause the entirety of the Mosaic covenant to be completed, or simply part of it? I’d be very interested to hear your thoughts!
