Hi Michael! While I would agree that steps 1 and 2 are important, I would suggest expanding upon step 3. It is possible to be pro-Israel and not anti-Palestinian; the complexity of the question lies in the humanity of both sides. Affirmation of the necessity for a Jewish state is certainly essential, but the support and organization of structure for Palestine is part of the solution for peace in the area. Both of these things must be considered in tandem, not so much an either-or situation. Complex is certainly the right word – it would require a shift of thought on both sides of the argument before any practical action can be taken, which must start the way you outlined in step 4 – building friendships, something I very much agree with.
