Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

I grew up in a small, non-denominational Church. By God’s grace, I had a pastor who loved the Jewish people and taught that Christ did not cancel the first covenant with the Jewish people nor did the land of Israel lose its significants. I am currently at a baptist university and, after taking a couple Christian studies courses, I would say that the idea of succession is very present. In fact, I (like many of you) have taken the pathfinder course because I feel the significants of Israel and the near East. One of my favorite insights that Dr. McDermott gave was that God created the Jewish people to bless the world.
