The most important reason is for us to understand the destruction we can cause by making bad decisions. As this course mentions, Christian antisemitism had a big part in prompting the Jews to create a Jewish state. If we oppress either Israel or the Palestinians, we will only make matters worse in the Near East. Moreover, understanding the history allows us to widen our perspective on the conflict as a whole. The Jews and the Palestinians are not the only actors in this conflict and we bare some responsibility. This should prompt us to carefully make wise decisions and find solutions to the conflict. As Proverbs 14:12 says, “there is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death.” The sad history of Christian antisemitism must not be forgotten so that we will not hold such hateful attitudes against other groups.
