I watched the film “Lawrence of Arabia” for the first time a few months ago. In retrospect, I wonder if it would have been better if T. E. Lawrence had not convinced the Arab tribes to unite against the Ottomans. Perhaps Arab nationalism and Islamist terrorism would not have developed the way they did, and the region not become the threat to international security it is today.
