Much of my own church community does not believe in the doctrine of supercessionism, but for those who do I think it is especially important to highlight that not everyone who believes that the land of Israel retains its significance in God’s eternal, redemptive plan for the world are from the extreme far-right political fringe who articulate their political and religious view with blind loyalty to the state of Israel. The modern nation-state is, after all, like any other human government marred by sin and moral corruption. It is also useful to help explain how disregard for the Jews and diminishing their significance as a people has indeed contributed to the various ways in which they have been persecuted throughout the centuries. Additionally, it is a good and sobering exercise to recognize the failures of professing Christians, including and especially how they have treated the Jews and examine the underlying reasons why that happened.
