Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

Thanks for your insight, Maggie. I thought your questions were particularly relevant. I definitely think that God’s covenant with the Jews is still in place, but I also don’t think that negates their need for salvation. While the Jews are extremely special to God, I think they must be saved just like anyone else. Christ came for both the Jew and the Gentile.

To another of your questions, perhaps the Jews have been so persecuted because many won’t acknowledge Jesus as the Messiah. But I believe the main reason is simply because they are God’s chosen people and are hated simply because of that.
