I have never been told this explicitly but definitely grew up in a faith tradition that would profess unequivocal support for Israel. While I always thought this was the case, my opinion has definitely changed after listening to Robert’s presentation in this module.
I would respond to this claim by saying that supporting both Israel and Palestine is not contradictory but entirely compatible. While I still believe that the Jews are God’s chosen people and that Israel will play a significant role in the end times, that does not in any way negate the Palestinian connection to the land. Palestinians are humans created in the image of God and deserve to be treated as such. It’s also important not to lump all Palestinians together. As we learned, Hamas is the militant group; but there is a group that desires to establish a state peacefully with Israel.
This is a deep-rooted conflict far beyond our understanding but that shouldn’t keep us from striving for peace and protecting the human dignity of both Israelis and Palestinians.
