Reply To: In the first lecture, Dr. McDermott teaches that the Bible is one story, and that God upholds his covenant with the Jewish people to this very day. Was this what you were taught growing up? If not, how will this insight change the way you read the bible going forward?

Interesting! I grew up in a Baptist church and did not realize until later in life how many Christians there are who don’t take a “dispensationalist-or-otherwise-everlasting-covenant view.” Personally, I feel like the supercessionist view would somewhat impoverish my general view of the Bible, because I would not be very interested in much of the Hebrew Bible or Old Testament; I would be looking for Messianic prophecies or “types” but would not be so interested in all the other aspects. Did you find that to be true of the teachings of those churches?
