I appreciated your post on Just War Theory, a topic I know about vaguely but not in any great detail. Thanks for outlining a few of its tenets. ‘Probability of success’ is an interesting inclusion that seems wrong at first blush; if your cause is just, shouldn’t the correct attitude be a kind of “never tell me the odds?” However, on further reflection, probability of success is a useful criterion on moral and not just practical grounds. If a just cause is likely to fail at achieving its objectives through force of arms, its proponents had better think long and hard about whether the death toll and attendant horrors of war are worth the slender chance of success.
