Similar to you, Robert, I am thankful that saintlier men than me have spent the time to think about these issues. As you note, discussions about war can often take on a bloodless, no pun intended, and fatalistic tone, as though whatever is required to win should be expected and may even be permitted. Faith tells us this is not the case, that every soldier and commander is responsible for the decisions he makes, and that even if justice is denied on Earth it surely will be meted out in Heaven.
