I really gravitated to this comment-serving a higher power is as practical as it is spiritual because it incentivizes people to look beyond themselves and serve the body, not through force but through pushing people’s eyes beyond the carnal and to the eternal. I think of how Marx scathingly referred to religion as a public opioid, demonstrating how dug in the secular worldview is on finite and temporal things being ultimate things of consequence. The Hebraic worldview as explained here maintains the betterment of self and our ultimate destination ad the cherished prize-and thus society as a whole benefits.
