You have perceptively identified the problem of social media. I think Christians need to seriously reckon with the dangers social media poses to democratic discourse, the pursuit of truth, and the practice of the Christian virtue of charity.
It seems to me that social media has very, very little to offer any of these three things. Social media has utterly failed to build democratic consensus, it has rarely contributed to growing wisdom, and I’m not sure the Internet has made any Christian more righteous.
