thank you for your well-written commentary. I personally find it very encouraging to see that the Maronites were indeed one of the few people – if not the only – who escaped dhimmitude in the Ottoman Empire by fighting for their freedom. It should be an encouragement for us today to hear that, not only in the context of the Middle East but also in our western societies. It is important to stand up and fight for our values and beliefs and to not succumb to the general opinion of what is correct, good or evil so that we can keep our freedom to act in accordance with our conscience.
