Sarah, I had the same belief as you growing up. It was interesting to hear that traditionalist Jews believe the Messiah will be a holy and exalted man who ushers in an era of peace, but not God. More interesting still is the modernist belief that the Messiah is an age, not a person. It drives home how little I know about Judaism, but courses like this serve as valuable opportunities to learn.
